4 Month Appt. for E

Today E had her 4 month appointment. All is well. She now weighs 16lbs and 1/4 oz and 25.5 inches long. Slowing down on the weight gain (as most do over time) but still in the top 90-95 percentiles on both.

The doctor was impressed by her talking (well saying Mama plus babbling and some other word "attempts"), head holding ability, rolling, pulling to stand up, and of course general cuteness (she was laughing at everyone). She was once again encouraging waiting till 6 months to have any food other than breast milk which is our plan and very thorough about any concerns we might have. I really love our doctor and it's such a difference from the doctor we saw before in Midtown. She really knows her stuff, is awesome with the kids (though just E was there today), and seems to really care about her patients.

We did have one issue with a mix up with the nurse. E missed a shot at 3 months because the office was out of it and was supposed to have it at 5 months instead but the nurse accidentally grabbed that shot today instead of one of the two other vaccines she was scheduled for. We recognized the mistake after the fact and luckily it will not affect the effectiveness of any of her vaccines or her overall schedule and it was no worry of overdose or anything since this is the one she missed. It will adjust our next shots though and I'm very glad we realized it...though it would've been nice if we'd noticed before it was given.

The doctor was very upset by this and super apologetic and reassuring and I know it wasn't her fault but this was a reminder that even if the doctor orders the vaccines and tells you what your child is getting it is still good to have the nurse check again when they have the medicine in their hand to make sure. The nurse was looking at the chart not listening to the doctor this time. Luckily that doesn't make that much of a difference this time but hubby and I definitely had a very big scare and will be checking several times at future appointments (where the PA or doctor herself will probably be doing the future doses for a bit we think).

Overall all went well though. E is growing great and doing all she should and then some. I can't believe my littlest baby is getting so big :) but I'm so excited every day to see what she'll do next.
