Kids Say......Again

Well it's been awhile since I did one of these so these are just a few cute sayings from the last few days

Tuesday 11/27
J told C "I think Mommy's having a bad day." Funny part is I really thought I was having a good day before that (besides wishing it was warmer and I was still in bed of course). Does he know something I don't know?

Wednesday 11/28
C was on a roll tonight since I had a headache
She said "Mommy you should take a nap, we can take care of ourselves"

And later brought me her water bottle saying "Here Mommy you need this more than I do"

Thursday 11/29
C told me "Mommy I didn't get any sleep last night. Eva didn't want to sleep so I sang her two songs and she went to sleep, but after I finished the two songs it was almost morning"
Mommy- "Well that was very nice of you but those must have been very long songs"
C- "Well I think it was morning, the songs weren't that long though so I may have gotten some sleep after all"

E sees a mug a points "Look Mommy that's coffee!"
I correct her (since neither Daddy or I drink coffee): "No that's a cup"
E: "No that's not a cup it's a cup of coffee"
[I blame her grandparents for this]

And some general E-isms:
Eva can say anything we say on repeat but she still mixes up a few words which are particularly cute. A couple of these are:
pickle=tickle
popsicle=bicycle

So often during dinner we will here "Mommy can I need a tickle pweeze and a bicycle for dessert!"

I run to the kitchen since the bathroom is off there and hear "Mommy you need to get me milk pweeze" I reply "Well I need to use the bathroom first" E: "Well you need to wash your hands" I come out (after washing my hands) E: "Now I need milk pweeze" Me:"Okay" I give her her milk and also grab some grahm crackers in the box for myself. E: "You need to get me some cookies too" Me: "No you have milk" I sit down with my cookies E comes up to me and looks at the box E: "What's in that box? Oh it's my cookie!" I just laugh at her and hand her the cookie "Thank you Mommy!"

11/30
C: Can I clean up, pretty pretty please?!
J: Can I clean up too, handsome, handsome please?!

Thanksgiving 2012

This year we decided to go to my mom's house/Ami's house in North Georgia since my sister and her family would be there for Thanksgiving. Since Daddy had to work Wednesday we drove down Thursday and had a wonderful traditional meal Thursday on my mom's deck. It was a great meal, beautiful setting, and of course lots of lovely company, though we kept saying how we wished my brother and his family were with us.

This reminded me of a few years when my mom hosted Thanksgiving at our house when I was growing up. I still remember my uncles Sam and Ken leaning against the rails on the deck talking, my grandmother and grandfather relaxing in the living room while everyone ran about to get things ready. They have since passed on and it's been awhile since I've had Thanksgiving at my mom's but I'm so thankful I had those memories and felt that same love they always brought this Thanksgiving.

I hope my children have lovely memories from this Thanksgiving too. I think with all the fun they had with their big cousins, the love showered on them by Ami, the beauty of the North Georgia Mountains and all the many blessings we have to be thankful for this year this will be one of their favorite Thanksgivings looking back.

2 fuzzy cellphone pics to sum up the day

It's definitely a rainy Monday, and this is what results in the Baker household when kids go slightly stir crazy. These moments were caught as they were happening (thus the cellphone pics) and no adult aid was given in the process.

To My Children on their Future First Presidential Election Day

Today is Election Day, November 6, 2012. In November 2024, unless there is some policy change before then, three of my children will be voting in the presidential election for the first time. So today I write this for my children, the ones voting then and in later years as well.

2012 is the first year in my life as a voting adult that I am not routing as much for one candidate over another but rather that either candidate who wins will do the best they can and help make our country that you will grow up in the best it can possibly be. There is not a clear winner going into this election and on this cold rainy fall morning I can't tell you who will win but I do expect no matter the winner things in our country and in the election process are very likely to change after this election.

So I do not want to talk about the candidates today. And I know you know the importance of the choice in front of you and that it is your right as Americans to choose the leader of your country for the next four years. Your father and I will have been teaching you these things for the past 12 years.

Today here is what I hope for you when you are preparing to vote in 2024:

On your first presidential election I hope that no matter what state you live in that you know your vote counts and will make a difference in choosing the next leader of our country.

I hope that you have more than 2 candidates to choose from, that no matter their party, the right person to lead our has the same chance of being elected as someone in a larger more established party.

I hope that you do not have to compromise your ethics and morals for what you believe is the best for our economy, environment, foreign policy, etc.

I hope that you do not agree with all your friends on who to vote for and I hope that you can talk to those same people civilly and learn from each other even if you never change your minds.

I hope that you NEVER attack someone or feel attacked for who you want to vote for.

I hope on whatever social network that exists in 2024 that political posts are to promote the candidate choice, and beliefs of each individual and not to put down and ridicule the choices of others.

I hope that if your candidate doesn't win you respect the choice of the majority of the citizens of the United States.

I hope if the next president is not someone you voted for or agree with that you still respect him or her as a human being and as the leader of our country for the next four years. In turn I hope I have taught you in general that you do not have to agree with someone to give them respect.

I hope that if your candidate wins you are happy but that you do not make your fellow citizens who did not support him or her feel any less for their choice and vote which differed than your own.

I hope that whether you voted for the next president or not that if they don't end up making the decisions you hoped for or helping make the country the way we would like that you remember it is not the fault of those who voted for them. In turn I hope that if the president is wonderful it is never put that it does not have to do with those who didn't vote for him.

I hope that you know and remember one person does not determine the success of our country. Every person has an influence and every person making the choice to vote no matter who they vote for makes a difference.

I hope whichever candidate is elected that they learn from and listen to those who didn't vote for them as well as those who did, and that they remember they are leading our entire nation not just the over 50% who put them in office.

I hope you know that despite our family's beliefs I am proud of you making this choice today and exercising your right to vote. Even if we don't agree on who is the best candidate I am proud of you taking the time to research and choose who you believe will be the best to lead our country in the next four years.

Now on a little lighter note I hope traffic is light and the polling lines are short today in 2024 for you. I hope you are as proud as I was the first time I got my Georgia Peach I voted sticker. I hope many of the issues we are voting on in 2012 have since been resolved and that whatever issues are up for the vote in 2024 they are also resolved in the way that benefits our country and it's citizens as a whole so that your children some day will also feel blessed to grow up in this country and that someday you will also be excited to encourage them to vote (even if it's not for who you are voting for) just as I am excited today for you, even 12 years in advance.

And I end this letter with a quote from one of our great past presidents to remember before you go vote today:

Nobody will ever deprive the American people of the right to vote except the American people themselves and the only way they could do this is by not voting.
Franklin D. Roosevelt
